Jackie Flanagan is a Kerry born artist, currently residing in Dublin.
She bases her paintings around her experiences of the physical and the non-physical world. This interest motivates Jackie to respond to the concept of the polarity, and, at the same time the attraction of the primal and the metaphysical. She is intrigued by how people and past/present cultures express who they are according to this concept. It is this response which informs her subject-matter. This combined with her love for travelling is all captured on canvas.
Jackie's style combines the abstract with the narrative. This combination is an enjoyable process because it involves the diversity of technical ability. This diversity can range from spreading layers of paint/plaster to achieve a relief surface, to that of the removal of paint, to allow the canvas to show through. This tangible surface is not one of accident. The need for the archaeologist to break the soil and reveal layers is a practical necessity. Jackie's experience of being an archaeologist too cannot escape the canvas.
