Born in Hartlepool in 1936, though now living in London, Maurice Cockrill is one of the most protean, original and important artists working today. Very much a 'painter's painter', not for him the easy path of repeating that which works well; his innovative painting has a unique energy, and it is always evolving and challenging. Cockrill's wonderful, sensuous work is included in important public and private collections worldwide.
