The Knocklyon Art Group has been in existence since
early 2000. It evolved from the day and evening classes run
by the Adult Education Group (KAIES), where classes had been
running successfully for a number of years. A few people got
together to channel this energy and set about arranging exhibitions.
These were originally held in the local Community Centre but
have since progressed to Rathfarnham Castle which boasts a
magnificent exhibition hall.
The aim of the art group is to invite members of the local
community to unite in either displaying their work, or simply
awakening a greater appreciation in others of the beauty of
fine art. This also encourages the viewing audience to appreciate
the talent within their own community. Art and creativity
is, indeed, for everyone.
The group usually donate a per centage of sales to a local
charity. The painting of the Wicklow hills (above) was created
for a raffle and the proceeds were donated to the local St.
Vincent de Paul.
